Yes, it’s true! #eventprofs turns 1 today!! It’s been a truly incredible year and as I’ve watched the community grow from a small group of people on February 9, 2009 to a thriving community of thousands today, I can say that I’m truly proud and amazed. In celebration of our first birthday, I wanted to turn it over to you, the community, to share what #eventprofs has meant to you.

Congratulations eventprofs & congratulations especially to you Lara, for being the driving force behind this community! I think it’s apropos that this anniversary comes on the heels of EventCamp 2010, which proved to be a culmination of the ideas and community that has developed over the past year.
I’ll share that the eventprofs community has meant the world to me. Not only have I connected with like-minded individuals that share the same passions for social media and events, but being enriched by the experiential knowledge and insights has been a value that can’t be put in to words.
I look forward to seeing how this community continues to develop and grow over the next year! Happy Birthday!!

Congrats and Happy B-day to all the Eventprofs! it’s been interesting to watch this grow because unlike paid industry associations, the members of Eventprofs are the future of the business and are interested in breeding collaboration…both online and off!
I look forward to continuing to welcome new people and to the new resources that continue to become available to us all!

Congratulations on the milestone! Love that you have created something that allows people in the events industry to use a social media tool to engage with and invest in each other in a meaningful way.

Happy Birthday, #eventprofs!
Of course, a HUGE thanks to Lara for initiating such a supportive and collaborative group. I know we have all benefited from the relationships formed here and the resources gleaned from this group and you have been the force behind it all.
To the rest of the #eventprofs: You make this group what it is and it is a great accomplishment to have made it a year. I think the #eventprofs community is one of the most vibrant twitter communities that exists and I am proud to be a part of it!
Happy Birthday! Cheers to the next year!

It’s your birthday! Wahoo! Celebrate good times, come on! It’s a celebration!
Thanks Lara for having the courage and wisdom to start eventprofs. We are better because of it.
Virtual Hugs to you as you blow out your virtual candles. And, you can eat as much virtual cake as you want too!

Eric, Aaron, Liene, Liz and Jeff, thank you all for your amazing thoughts and comments. I want to say that my part was really extremely small. A community would have formed regardless of a hashtag. And the community has become what it is because of the people within it. A group of people who connected on Twitter created an incredible f2f event in New York, a great lady (Jenise Fryatt) started #EIR, many people began authoring their own blogs, many launched new businesses and partnerships. I blogged about this before, but there’s also what I would call an executive team for #eventprofs – who discuss the community and how to continually improve it – Jeff Hurt, Robert Swanwick, Deb Roth, Cameron Toth and Samuel J Smith. It’s a pretty incredible community of people. I’m proud to be one of many.

Hi Lara!
I hope that you had some birthday cake today and celebrated, today. (Maybe at the chat tonight?!)
I pulled together some of the highlights from the past year and shared them with the Event Coup community (http://ow.ly/15pvU). While I was pulling together the information, I was amazed at how much the community had accomplished in the past 12 months. It is really something else.
> Over 60 Twitter chats
> Website/wiki,
> How to Chat Video
> Event Blogger Awards
> Facebook Fan Page (I actually forgot about this one!)
> One Face-to-Face Event.
When you started #eventprofs – you kick-started a great thing. Maybe I should have said sparked! I am really excited to see where it goes in the future.
After Event Camp this weekend, several members, including myself, are now referring to #Eventprofs as their “tribe”. And, they are pointing out – over and over – how much a small dedicated group of people can accomplish. I think that is really awesome.
Thanks again for helping us come together and share our passions and ideas on Social Media and Events!
– Sam
